by-brooke-swan.jpg

I know I’m not the only one who is scratching their head at the calendar — though it’s only two weeks into January it certainly feels like so much has happened in our world in a short amount of time. I hope that you all are staying safe and healthy and I am so happy to have you here, reading this newsletter.

During this time, it is absolutely vital to take time for you! Make sure to check out the good tunes, self care, and the uplifting news. I also encourage you to take a look at and follow @bybrookethorn and to get lost in some beautiful illustration work! Brooke will start taking on commissions end of February!

A Note About Our Commitment To Sustainability

Did you know that our plastic bags are compostable? So are our little stickers that keep your needles in place; the tissue paper, too! The little mountain needle cards are made from recycled t-shirts and we think our raw silk ribbons are pretty enough to tie your hair back or reuse! Lastly, our new, refreshed mini tote bags are made from recycled cotton and water bottles by a small business in New Hampshire. These are just a few of the ways we are striving to be more sustainable in 2021. Keep an eye out for our new plant-based bags! They can be composted in your backyard composting in as long as it takes to break down an orange peel!

Songs To Stitch To, Sing To, Get You Through The Week

I. Woman (feat. Lianne La Havas) — Nao

II. Gold Angel — Minke

III. Another World — biLLLy, Maya Delilah

Set Aside Some Time This Week For Some Self-Care

I. Don’t underestimate the power of a warm cup of tea, sipped mindfully. Grab your favorite mug, stow away your electronics, and just enjoy.

II. Overdoing it on the news? Remind yourself that it’s okay to turn it off! We weren’t made to have news at our fingertips 24/7, so of course it can cause overwhelm! Pop on your favorite song or phone a friend. I promise, the news will still be there when you return.

III. Choose one day this week that you are going to spend extra time getting ready for the day. Maybe you take time to wash your face, put together your favorite outfit, or drink a big glass of lemon water without rushing to the next thing.

Soulful Salutations

I. “Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” — Carl Jung⁣

II. “Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

III. “The world needs exactly who you are.” — Jaqueline Whitney

Uplifting Things Happening Around The World

I.In 2020, greenhouse gasses in the United States dropped to the lowest levels since World War II

II. A graduate student started dropping slices of pizza out of his apartment window during the pandemic and asked only for donations. So far he’s raised $30,000, which he will give to charity!

III. After the 2024 Olympics, Paris will turn the Champs-Élysées into a beautiful garden meant for relaxation.

Watching Lately

His Dark Materials Season 2: I loved the film Golden Compass when I was younger and have inspired memories in utter awe in FAO Shwarz when they had their respective instillation. Was that 2007 maybe? Anyways, I binged the first season during the first week of quarantine nearly a year ago. It's wild to think that we have come full circle as the second season ends... still in quarantine.

Discovery of Witches Season 2 has arrived! Available on Sundance. Same deal! Watched this last spring during quarantine and am absolutely delighted it's back! Matthew Goode is definitely my number one Hollywood crush.

Palm Springs on Amazon Prime: A quirky escape with an impressive twist! The modern day Groundhog Day starring Andy Samberg. Ethan and I loved watching this film last week and found it surprisingly really well done.

Goose will tell you that he listens to Brené Brown podcasts when I try to leave the house to run errands or go for a hike that's too long for him. Check out — Unlocking Us
