There She Goes: May, Mother’s Day, Mental Health💛

Hello & Happy Wednesday!

Welcome to another edition of There She Goes, a collection of musings, updates, and uplifting snippets. Thanks for being here with me!

As I mentioned last week, I got my second does of vaccine and I’m feeling oh so grateful for science! It was lovely to be able to see my cousins this past weekend and go on a hike. We serendipitously ended our hike just as it started to rain and enjoyed lunch in the open trunks of our cars. I’m looking forward to more local adventures this spring and summer ☀

This Sunday the US celebrates Mother’s Day. I’m sending lots of good energy out to mothers, those that want to be mothers, and those that have lost their mothers. I will be leading a special self love event on Sunday and if you wish to join me, visit the event page or respond to this email.

Today, though, is Cinco de Mayo 🎉. Surveys have shown that only a small percentage of Americans (~10%) actually know what the holiday represents even though it’s celebrated more in the US than in Mexico. You can refresh your memory here!

I’ll also share this article on questions and terms used to search Google about this holiday… because it actually made me laugh out loud.

Set Aside Some Time This Week For Some Self-Care

I. Reserve a few minutes to sit in the sun this weekend. No screens or input, just enjoying the breeze or smells or sounds that you sense.

II. It’s mental health awareness month and I’m loving creative ways that people are creating resources and community. A friend of mine was wearing a sweatshirt the other day that said “I don’t mind” in script. There’s a beautiful shop full of these types of items, with the goal of getting people talking about their mental health.

III. Check out this toolkit for taking care of yourself.

III.“What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation.” — Glenn Close

Uplifting Things Happening Around The World

I. The early warning system for earthquakes in the US now covers the entire West Coast. If you live on the West Coast, be sure to download the app or make sure you’ve opted in!

II. A biotechnology company in Halifax is growing aquaculture fish food from greenhouse gases and just got a big funding boost! Too cool!

III. A man in Ontario, Canada launched a canoe-sharing program to cultivate community and outdoor fun!
