There She Goes: New Heights
Hello & Happy Wednesday
Remember last week, when I told you Brooke was climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in an effort to raise money for The Leo Project ? Well … she summited ! I am so incredibly proud of this amazing woman who I am grateful to call my friend. This is an example of how limitless our potential is — and how you do have the power to reach new heights. Feel it and believe it!
Meanwhile, today I am writing to you from Portland, Oregon! This is my very first time to Oregon so I am excited to do some exploring and see what the Pacific Northwest is all about. If you follow the blog I write with my partner, James, called “She & Jim” you’ll know that I am on the path to becoming a life coach! My coaching program brought me to Portland for a five day intensive, and James joined me to make a trip out of it. We’ll be in Portland for about a week, before heading to Eugene and Bend. I hope to share a few fun pieces from the road and you can, of course, follow the blog to catch the full stories!
OK! All caught up on these crazy adventures to start 2020 — on to the good feelin’ stuff. 😊
Songs To Stitch To, Sing To, Get You Through The Week
Set Aside Some Time This Week For Some Self-Care
I. If you’re participating in Dry January or considering cutting back on the habitual glass of wine, the statistics and trends are in your favor. What’s in store? More energy, better focus, improved sleep, and even a more fulfilling social life!
II. Cozy up with tea. I usually ride the coffee train, but I like to mix in teas, especially when it’s something a little different. I was recently introduced to a small company called Rose Glow Tea Room, which creates blends of CBD-infused tea. The company started with one woman’s commitment to drink a cup of tea a day without distractions or stress. Now that sounds like an activity we all should try for. If you do check out this company, make sure to look at their beautiful crystal water bottles. I have one that I absolutely adore!
III. Make your home a happy place! To start off the year with good home vibes, take a look around and ask yourself: “What are a few things I can control in my physical space?” The space we come home to, and even work in on a daily basis, if you work from home, impacts our psyche — and, unlike other parts of life, our space is more controllable. Look around this week, make a few tweaks, and see how you feel.
Soulful Salutations
“Why punish yourself for trying to be extraordinary or even good or normal? Because the sight of a person who has decided to make their own music is breathtaking” — Kate McKinnon
“There are so many different ways to be human.” — Jedidiah Jenkins
"And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good." — John Steinbeck
Uplifting Things Happening Around The World
I. Sending our love and support out to both those affected and the ones fighting the brush fires in Australia. This week, California firefighters headed to Australia to be the first US troops on the ground to battle these deadly flames. Though this is scary stuff, it’s good to see efforts to band together.
II. Schools in Illinois will start to teach LGBTQ history in 2020. The aim is to provide a more inclusive, comprehensive history and also highlight the important contributions of LGBTQ individuals.
III. John Cena has officially granted 600 wishes for the Make A Wish Foundation, more than any celebrity in history!
PSA — Have you seen the canvas “I Love You Because…”? It’s one of my personal favorites as it’s a nod to one of my favorite books, The Alchemist! There are only 5 kits remaining! It’s a great gift for a friend, S/O, or for the 2020 version of y.o.u. Check it out here!
Have a great week!
Be well,
Sheila
