There She Goes: The Sun Sets On June

Hello & Happy Wednesday!

mountains-from-tent.jpg

As James and I worked through the weekend, we decided to take off for the mountains on Monday. We hiked and camped in Breckenridge, sleeping and waking to mountain views like the photo shown from our tent’s front-window. It felt amazing to breathe chilly mountain air and to take time admiring the sunset. This was our first camping trip in Colorado and I hope it is the first of many. We will be writing a blog post about our experience and share some tips for first time campers. Stay tuned!

I also recognize what a privilege it is that we are able to own our schedules and to move so freely through the world. I have been thinking about my white privilege, specifically, a lot lately. This has become a central conversation with my friends and for that, I am grateful. I shared a blog post about uncomfortable conversations with friends, because I know how hard it can be to start. If you haven’t yet, I encourage you to check it out and let me know what you think and how these types of conversations are going with your friend group. — Friend Talk blog.

Set Aside Some Time This Week For Some Self-Care

camping-spot-breck.jpg

I. Watch the sunrise or sunset. Set your phone & worries aside and just experience the magic of being fully present with it.

II. Take a look around the space you spend the most time in your house and ask — is there any way you can improve upon your surroundings? Perhaps it’s as simple as tidying up, perhaps it’s adding a candle to a table, perhaps it’s changing the entire color scheme!

III. Stream this playlist & donate money to BLM, simply by listening!

Soulful Salutations

I. “We’re all just walking each other home.” — Ram Dass

II. “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” — Maya Angelou

III. “You've got to learn to leave the table when love's no longer being served." — Nina Simone

Uplifting Things Happening Around The World

I. Kaitlyn Saunders AKA @the.skate.kid is a talented 9 year old figure skater. She created this beautiful tribute performance during which she skated 16th street in front of the White House, along “Black Lives Matter” to the song “Rise Up.”

II. On Friday, Colorado passed a landmark law against qualified immunity. This will “allow Coloradans to sue officers for damages in state court, if those officers violate the Colorado Constitution’s Bill of Rights or “fail to intervene” when those rights are violated.” Curious which states are taking action for police reform? The graphic on this page is helpful.

III. 13 women in Cordoba, Spain used their time in quarantine to crochet a 50 meter LGTBIQ+ flag. Check out the final product!

IV. This is amazing — The Barcelona Opera reopened with an audience of all plants.

V. In November 2016, Sean Williams, a black father from Long Island, started posting photos on Instagram that reflected positive images of active black dads. It turned into a movement called “The Dad Gang.” Check it out and give their account a follow.

VI. During this pride month, a 90 year old man in Colorado decided it was time to finally come out. He was met by an outpouring of support and love.

Have a great week!

Be well,
Sheila
