There She Goes: Hello October
Hello & Happy Wednesday!
It’s officially been a month since returning from my travels across Europe, so I took some time to write about it! You’ll recognize a familiar quote from last week’s newsletter, which is the quote that seriously helped me put things into perspective. I am reminded, especially in this time of changing seasons and mentality, that you can always come home to yourself and recognize a few extraordinary pieces of your own life.
*PS. Photos in this week’s edition are inspired by Brooke’s recent (scenic!) road trip 👏
Songs To Stitch To, Sing To, Get You Through The Week
I Can Change (wiidope remix) — Lake Street Dive, Wiidope
Young Fools — Small Million
Morning Time feat. Nicki Bluhm — The Brothers Comatose
Set Aside Some Time This Week For Some Self-Care
I. Wake up a little earlier that usual, then spend that time having a slow morning. I love waking up early and really always have, however even a morning lover like myself recognizes how challenging it can be to spring from my bed into the day. To make it a bit easier, a few times a week I’ll add on extra buffer time to my alarm. Then, even if I have to be somewhere by 7 AM, I can actually enjoy some time waking up and mentally preparing for the day. It really does wonders!
II. Make a meal out of yummy fall veggies. Now is the perfect time to plan a dish (or various dishes!) out of bright fall veggies such as butternut and acorn squash, sweet potatoes, beets, and dark leafy greens. I personally love experimenting with pumpkin (or other squash of preference) in smoothies, breads, and overnight oats.
III. Take intentional times to observe the miracle of the leaves changing. If you’re fortunate enough to live in a place to experience this, make sure you don’t miss it! Hike for a nice view, jump in leaf piles, or simply lay on your back and gaze up at the trees.
Uplifting Things Happening Around The World
I. “A new study shows that China and India—the world’s most populous countries—are leading the increase in greening on land.” Click the quote from the article to see the cool satellite images!
II.There is a ship cleaning the ocean! The first mission —The Great Pacific Garbage Patch. The Ocean Cleanup, a Dutch non-profit group, created this ship with the goal of cleaning up half of this patch in 5 years.
III. New York City schools have introduced a city-wide ban on processed meats. This falls on the heels of the “Meatless Mondays” introduced by Mayor Bill De Blasio just a few months ago. This means, once the ban begins, there will be no sign of bologna, salami, pepperoni, or bacon, which is a big step for nutrition in school systems!
