Another week, another note for you! I was just reflecting on my time writing these newsletters and realized it’s been just over a year since we started this series. If you’ve been following the journey, thank you for being a reader! If you are new, welcome! You are in for a treat. Each newsletter has happy stories, tunes, self care, updates, and more. All this to help motivate & inspire your week!

If there is something you really love about these, or something you’d love a little more of, feel free to reply back to me: sheila(at)thornalexander(dot)com. Always happy to hear from your amazing stitchers!

Today I also want to shout out all the moms - you are amazing superheros and the world is lucky to have you! For those who are feeling a little alienated right now by all the Mother’s Day marketing, I have something for you too - A Letter for Mother's Day For Those Without A Mom.

Set Aside Some Time This Week For Some Self-Care

I. Make a playlist with all of your favorite songs. While it’s true that listening to made-for-you playlists is fun, making your own collection of songs that represent personal memories and emotions can be really amazing!

II. Feeling like you need a little motivation or direction? Check out “5 Super Simple Habits To Integrate In May.”

III. Read a recipe book just for fun & to wind down! I was inspired to read a cookbook before bed this week - one that reads a bit like a story anyway - and it was super soothing. Try it this week and see how it goes!

Soulful Salutations

“Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that you can make everything happen”— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I. Kroger bought dairy farmers’ surplus milk and redirected it to food banks of Feeding America. The milk was originally intended for schools & food service, and farmers were challenged to find new buyers.

II. The Governor of Michigan pledged $3.3 million in financial relief for bar & resturant owners across the state.

III. For the first time in 150 years, a brown bear was spotted in a national park in northern Spain!

IV. A new bill would forgive medical school debt for frontline workers. If passed, those who are directly interacting with COVID-19 patients (including researchers working on treatments & cures) would be relieved of their student loans.

V. Michelle & Barack Obama will be doing virtual commencement speeches for the class of 2020. This will be a YouTube special called Dear Class of 2020.

VI. Irish people are donating money to Navajo and Hopi families hit hard by COVID-19 - a “thank you” of sorts, recognizing the support the Choctaw Nation offered the Irish during the famine in 1845. They’ve raised over $1.8M already!

Have a great week!

Be well,
Sheila
