There She Goes: Your Light From Within Shines Bright

Hello & Happy Wednesday!

ice-cream-in-fall.JPG

I hope you all are doing well and enjoying Fall, however it may be in your part of the world. I’m loving the warm days and chilly nights and the weather is making outdoor activities that much more pleasant!

There will be another debate tonight - are you tuning in? Since debates can be a bit stressful, I encourage you to do a litttttle extra nurturing before and after. Make sure you check in on yourself and your energy and be aware how much you take on.

Also I wanted to wish a very happy anniversary to Brooke and her fiance, who just celebrated one year living in Canada! May you continue to explore your new home while growing as individuals and a beautiful unit. 🇨🇦❤️

Sending out lots of happy Fall energy! Enjoy the good stuff packed into this week’s love letter.

Set Aside Some Time This Week For Some Self-Care

sloans-in-fall.jpg

I. Go for a walk and find a pile of leaves to jump in. If you feel like you need kids around to do this, you definitely do not. Let your inner child out and jump into the leaves!

II. Take a weekend trip for some leaf peeping while you still can! Soon enough the leaves will fall for the winter season.

III. Make a meal out of fall vegetables. Eating seasonally is the best because you can grab whatever looks the best at the market and then get creative to design a mouthwatering fall-inspired meal.

Soulful Salutations

I. “Whatever you are searching for in life is looking for you too.” — Rumi

II. “Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.” — Maya Angelou

III. “Let it go. I mean really let it go. Let the wind take it. Stop asking for it back. It’s a balloon. Not a boomerang.” — J.L. Wyman

Uplifting Things Happening Around The World

I. Did you see the story about Bea Lumpkin, the 102-year old woman who cast her mail-in ballot wearing PPE? The first presidential election she took part in as a voter was 1940 and she was adamant about not missing this one!

II. More than 3 million general election ballots have already been cast and some states are receiving a record number of ballot requests. In North Carolina, the county boards of elections received 9 times the number of requests as they did during the same time in 2016!

III. PBS just turned 50! Read about it’s impact through the ages here.

Brooke’s Bookshelf

Written by Brooke McGowan, founder of Thorn Alexander

Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson has co-written a book called All We Can Save (Book & Resources)

Book: https://www.allwecansave.earth/

I have been following her work for some time and look forward to continuing to listen to the audio book! We are also proud donors to Urban Ocean Lab, an organization she created to empower forward-thinking innovation in coastal cities.

Prince William: A Planet For Us All (Documentary): While this film touches on painful realities of climate change, it displays heartwarming efforts by kiddos and grown ups alike. Learn how the elephant population has declined 90% since The Queen was born to ten year old environmentalists starting a wave of Bugingham Palaces to help create wildflower habitats for vital insects and heavy lifters in our ecosystems.

The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy (Book): A friend's aunt read this to us on our final night in Kenya. It was such a touching tale and would certainly be a brilliant gift for loved ones eight days old to eighty years old. It always seems to speak to me in a moment of need and resilience.

Have a great week!

Be well,
Sheila
